Richmond Raiders Getting Closer to League Announcement

My source has reiterated that the Richmond Raiders will join the new Texas based indoor football league currently being organized by Chad Dittman.  He believes the official league announcement will be made 09/15/11.  This annoucement will include releasing the teams in each conference as well as 2012 schedule.

  1. Is this League going to be played During the same time they played last year? How many teams are supposedly going to be in this newly formed league, and when are the raiders holding there first try outs?

  2. Thanks for the post. I expect more information to be released very soon. The league being formed will not be the SIFL. If you go to the SIFL official website, the Richmond Raider and Albama Hammer logos have been removed from the site. It is presumed that management from each team requested that be done. The season will likely begin in March and try outs for the Raiders should take place in mid-October to mid-November. From what I hear, the new conference will include, Alabama, Albany, Columbus, Knoxville and Louisiana.

  3. Do you know if most of the players are coming back or are they looking to rebuild their roster from last year?

  4. The Raiders are always looking to get better and every player that was on the roster last season is now a free agent. The best advice I can give you is show up at try outs and play your heart out. Gary Criswell is the Operations guy and has a say in who makes the roster. I do know the team would love to have a heathly Bryan Randall back at Quarterback.

  5. Oh no, I'm not looking to try out. I'm just a local fan. I just know that the team was lacking in depth at the DB, QB, and WR towards the end of the year. I seen that Redd Thompson didn't play the last game and they went through line 5 quarterbacks during the season. Do you think the will invite that quarterback they finished with back on the team if Randall comes back? The defensive line was solid with Woodhouse anchoring it. With Trice at the Jackback those Two were consistent the whole year they definitely need them back to build the foundation of the defense. They also were good with the LBs too with Leak and Hall. The questionable spots were the DBs. It seemed like they were pleagued with injury. That Rece guy performed ok at the end of the season along with #41 guy Roderick I think his name was. They looked good. It also looked as if they were dropping Trice back in the secondary alot too but he seemed more comfortable at the Jack. So I hope they feel some of their weak spots with the tryouts. They also should look at some O-linemen too to keep them rushers off of Randall.

  10. Cool. I think I foung you on facebook.

I agree with your assesment on the 2011 team. They was a lot of talent, but a lot of injuries. Law retiring will leave a big hole.

Also, I do not think Atwon Young will return. He threw a lot of INTs and needs to spend a good amount of time under center. The Raiders need a solid, confident QB from day one.

  11. Yes, a team can't win with a different qb every wk! Randall returning would boost the team tremendously. I will say there needs to be more sites like this that give info on the Raiders to keep the fans interested.
